The tower of St Sauveur en Puisaye was part of a set of fortifications which protected the village in the Middle Ages. Located at the top of the fortifications of the urban wall and probably equipped with a hoard in the upper part, it had a protective role over the abbey of Moutiers and the priory of Saint-Sauveur. The tower was a place of power allowing the administration of the western territories of the bishopric of Auxerre, extending as far as the Loire. It had a cellar on the ground floor to store taxes and a large room upstairs. The Saracen Tower is currently closed to the public but you can admire it from the outside.
