Description

The tower of St Sauveur en Puisaye was part of a set of fortifications that protected the village in the Middle Ages. Located at the top of the fortifications of the urban enclosure and probably equipped with a hoarding in the upper part, it had a role of protection on the abbey of Moutiers and the priory of Saint-Sauveur. The tower was a place of power that allowed the administration of the western territories of the bishopric of Auxerre, extending as far as the Loire. It had a cellar on the ground floor for storing taxes and a large room on the first floor. The Saracen Tower is currently closed to the public but you can admire it from the outside.
