Le Castle of de Saint Fargeau in Yonne in Burgundy, an architectural jewel steeped in history, comes to life every summer on Fridays and Saturdays, during a grandiose historical spectacle. Immersing visitors in a captivating 1000-year-old epic, this unique show brings together 600 volunteers and 50 riders to deliver a memorable performance. It is undoubtedly, in everyone's opinion, one of the most beautiful shows in France.

History of the castle show

Le castle and his estate were acquired by Michel Guyot in 1979. He undertook, with his family, the renovation of this building located in the heart of Puisaye. In 1980, he launched the historical spectacle. The Fargeaulais (residents of Saint-Fargeau) mobilize and become volunteers. If initially there were 3 performances with 25 actors and 15 horses, today the show draws regional and even national fame.

600 volunteers and 50 riders don the costumes every Friday and Saturday evening in July and August.

The living history of the Château de Saint-Fargeau

The show begins with an impressive lighting display in the castle park, setting a scene, where the castle, narrator, tells its story. It becomes, over time, the witness to a rich and complex past in the history of France and Puisaye, from the Middle Ages to the most recent events. History is being written before your eyes.

The Different Paintings: A Temporal Journey

The successive scenes of the show reveal key moments in the history of Saint Fargeau. Players, dressed in period costumes, bring to life various periods, from the Renaissance to the Revolution, thus offering a historical fresco of incredible authenticity. Each painting is meticulously orchestrated, highlighting the majestic size of the castle and the park that surrounds it. Riders add dramatic dimension to the whole and transport you from centuries to centuries. Since 2015, the 3D special effects clearly bring the castle to life. From the first cut stones laid in the Middle Ages, to the historical upheavals which saw the castle partially destroyed or on fire, you will be captivated by the spectacle, in the dead of night.

A unanimous experience

Opinions converge to welcome the exceptional quality of the historical spectacle of the Château de Saint-Fargeau. Visitors highlight the commitment of volunteers and the authenticity of the experience, saying that the show transcends simple entertainment to become a real dive into the past. For each member of the family, adult and child, it is a magical evening, which each painting brings to life. Like a book in which you turn each page, your eyes will focus in turn on the castle, the park and the actors. Saint-Fargeau is part unmissable summer shows in Puisaye and throughout the region, which undeniably deserves a rating of excellence.
