Les Méandres de la Vrille

Marked hike No. 38. In the land of potters, there is first of all the clay which serves as raw material for its artisans, then the water, which springs from these clay-siliceous or clay-limestone soils depending on the geology of the basement in this sector. But there is also the beauty of this nature with its landscapes, paths framed, even marked by these roadblocks and their tadpoles with sometimes mysterious, sometimes mischievous shapes. They are at the start of some of the legends that inhabit the country.

Description

The start of this hike is Avenue de la Gare, very close to the Tourist Office.

(D/A) Head towards the castle, cross the Grande Rue (protected passage), enter the park grounds. Go around the building to the right. At the end of the gable, turn right and continue through the wooded part towards the buildings at the back (retirement home). After the pond on the right, turn left passing downstream of the car park and then right in sight of the stairs. Access to the car park ends with the Allée des Amours, which you have to go up to join the Route des Thus.

(1) Turn left and take the Route des Thus. Continue past the Thus wash house then leave it at the crossroads indicating Rats.

(2) Take this direction on the left. At the last houses, the path takes over in the form of an undergrowth path. Oak trees, certainly several hundred years old, and magnificent tadpoles guide the way. Sometimes, a few rus come to cross this path which leads to a curve described by the Vrille.

(3) Go to the left and follow the meanders to the right. Cross on the footbridge which spans the river. Continue on the path between the fences which separate the meadows located on either side. Arrive at the D955 road.

(4) First, cross with caution and then turn right, keeping the left shoulder and remaining vigilant. After traveling about 150 m, on the left, there is a path entrance. Enter it and climb this path, which shortly afterwards continues into a wider path. At the top, go to the left (a field entrance can give the impression of an emerging path). Arrive at a place called Les Plançons.

(5) At the pond and the well on the right, go down the road on the left that serves this hamlet. Very quickly it turns south, go as far as the entrance to the left curve described by the road. Take a wide path on the right. Continue, passing a stream at the bottom of the valley.

(6) On the right, pass between the trognes and climb a sunken path with a small, very discreet fountain on the right (see explanations in Practical information). At the outlet, discover the Moreaux with properties with very colorful barriers.
Facing a property entrance, leave the path on the right (small parking lot) to continue on this road (rather a greenway in the middle in places). Go to the old kiln located on the current site of the pottery training school (CNIFOP).

(7) At the fork, go down Faubourg des Potiers. Pass at the foot of the Écomusée de la Mémoire potière on the right hand side. Continue the descent which ends at the Carrefour Carriès. Cross with caution on the protected passage and head towards the town center via the Grande Rue. Cross the two bridges which span the arms of the Vrille and reach the starting point (D/A).
