Marked hike No. 70. This family hike is historically very interesting. Between shade in the first part and canal border in the second part, the whole has a difference in altitude of 28 m essentially at the beginning.
Description
Departure from the locks car park, Rue Hugues Cosnier.
(D/A) With your back to the car park, go right and cross the bridge which spans the canal. At the exit, immediately take the path which goes down to the foot of the locks, the canal will be on the left. Arriving at the foot of these locks, in front of the chestnut tree, go to the right to go up the stabilized path which runs alongside the old locks which will now be on the right hand side.
(1) Continue the progression while always having the Old Canal (also called Rigole de l'Étang Neuf) on the right. Enter the undergrowth and continue.
(2) A moment of stopping and reading allows you to know and understand an old unit of measurement: the myriameter. Continue on this path, keeping the Old Canal on the right, crossing the Pont Plat (see § Practical information). Further on, a right-left direction is necessary to avoid entering a private road.
(3) Go straight on without crossing the bridge on the right. Continue with the silos in focus. In front of the Briare Canal, turn right, pass under the D14 bridge. Continue on the towpath.
(4) Continue, always remaining on this towpath with the canal on the left. Pass the Écluse de la Javacière, the Écluse de Racault without crossing the canal, the Écluse Saint-Joseph then the Écluse de Chante-Pinot.
(5) Arriving at the crossroads, turn left crossing the bridge. Carefully cross the D314 to reach the car park (D/A).
