Marked hike No. 17. A path that smells of pollard. This tree, emblem of the edges of fields and woods, which for years fed animals or heated Poyaudin homes, presents countless specimens all along this path. On the way there and back, a very beautiful discovery of the streets and alleys of Old Toucy.
Route details
Description
Departure and return parking located in the center of Toucy, Place des Frères Genêt.
(D/A) Join Rue Émile Genêt, cross this street near the pharmacy, turn right to go up this street. Before the large curve drawn by Rue Paul Bert, turn left into Rue du Miton. At the end, turn left onto Rue Lucile Cormier.
Walk past the town hall, then past the front of a pharmacy to arrive in Rue Paul Defrance. Cross and take Rue des Montagnes (direction Lycée Pierre Larousse).
(1) At the crow's feet, leave the parking lot and the street on the right to continue progressing, still uphill. Pass in front of the high school and keep this axis until the intersection with Avenue de Kusel.
(2) Cross this avenue and find an entrance to a small lane between two pavilions called Chemin d'Arthé. Continue on this path which quickly turns into a sunken path. A few side paths and field entrances are crossed, but quickly passed. At the crossroads of four paths, go straight on.
(3) At the road, go to the left for about a hundred meters. Enter the path on the right. A substantial alignment of pollarded trees (also called trognes, decornues, etc.) will serve as a guide to the Maurepas ford. After passing the latter, go back along the fields. In the middle of the hill, leave the path on the right.
(4) At the castle on the right, take the road on the left. In Maurepas, go straight on to join the D955.
(5) Cross with caution and take a small path. It quickly divides into 2 branches. It is the one on the left that must be kept. Continue on this path, better traced and wider than the side exits.
(6) Cross the street in the hamlet of Maumont and go down immediately to the right onto a path under high forests. At the next intersection, turn left. Shortly after crossing the Ru de Maurepas (much more important than during the first crossing), take the path on the right. Leave agricultural buildings on the right hand side and always continue in a straight line.
(7) Turn left (the path does not appear on the IGN background). Still on a sunken path, it comes to a crossroads. Turn right, following the fields in places.
(8) Arriving on a wider lane flanked by a road marker, go to the left. This path is busier.
(9) At the end of the agricultural shed, turn left in a hairpin and follow shaded fields on the right and some wooded moors.
(10) Go straight on at this crossroads. Continue keeping a South-East axis. At the crossroads with the road serving La Roche, continue down the tarmac road.
(11) Continue straight ahead. Arrive at a crossroads, facing the agricultural machinery buildings. Turn right into the avenue of plane trees.
(12) Cross California facilities located on both sides (explanations § to see). Go past the grocery store and the gas station on the right. At the end, go up on the left into Rue de la Cattery. Leave Rue des 6 Deniers.
(13) Carefully cross Avenue Aristide Briand and go up the street opposite. At the road marker, turn right. In front of the church tower, go up the alley on the right which goes around the church. At the entrance stairs of this building, go back down the street on the right. At the end, turn right to enter a small square. Pass through the gap in the old ramparts and go down the flight of stairs which, after offering a beautiful view of Place Pierre Larousse, lead to this space and in front of the statue of the local child. Walk for a moment along Rue Paul Bert and take the alley on the right to reach the starting point (D/A).
