This 11th century medieval fortress shares its history, traditions and culture with you. It is here in the heart of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region that you can discover this unique place in France.

Ratilly Castle: A rich historical heritage

At the end of a path, the impressive facade of the Château de Ratilly emerges, real medieval fortress, in the heart of an intact countryside. After various embellishments during the Renaissance (fireplaces, dovecote), it today houses around a soothing courtyard, an artisanal pottery workshop and an art center.

This Yonne castle is one of the most majestic historic sites in the region. Its defense towers, its central courtyard and its dovecote make Ratilly an emblematic building in France.

Ratilly Castle

The Château de Ratilly is now included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments and Sites for its remarkable architecture. It also inspired the construction of the famous Château de Guedelon a few steps away, also located in the town of Treigny-Perreuse-Sainte-Colombe.

The Château de Ratilly today keeps traces of a rich heritage through the succession of its owners, notably the Pierlot family. Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot having lived for many years at the castle, made it their artistic fame. Indeed, during a stay between Yonne and Loire, at Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, Jeanne introduced Norbert Pierlot to this fortress. They decided together to leave Paris to live in Ratilly and devoted themselves to pottery by creating a tailor-made workshop.

The Friends of Ratilly association brings this place full of history to life through events and entertainment all year round. The protection of the Château de Ratilly is their objective. For you, they preserve this castle and make your visit a real experience.
