Charny Orée de Puisaye, a new commune nestled in the Yonne department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, proves to be a destination full of charm, offering a unique mix of heritage, preserved nature and various activities.

Just an hour and a half drive from Paris, this small town is the ideal refuge for those looking to escape the urban hustle and bustle without straying too far.

Charny Orée de Puisaye: First town of Puisaye-Forterre

Si Charny Orée de Puisaye is the first town in Puisaye-Forterre in terms of number of inhabitants or on the surface, it is because it is resulting from the merger of 14 villages. Chambeugle, Charny, Chêne-Arnoult, Chevillon, Dicy, Fontenouilles, Grandchamp, Malicorne, Marchais-Beton, Perreux, Prunoy, Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne, Saint-Denis-sur-Ouanne and Villefranche-Saint-Phal form this commune new, as you will see on the map below.

Charny Orée de Puisaye is steeped in historical richness, with its 13 churches which tell stories of the past from the Templar era to the XNUMXth century, including the Courtenay period (in Chevillon, the heart of a Courtenay is buried there, we know thanks to the liter, a black stripe painted on the wall). Let yourself be guided to discover the secrets of these sacred buildings which bear witness to the religious and architectural history of the region. A must-visit for heritage lovers. The Notre-Dame de Pitié chapel, in Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne, a silent witness to past centuries, offers a haven of peace where spirituality mixes with architectural beauty, creating a place conducive to contemplation.

In every village, everywhere in France, there is always a building, an emblematic place in the image of the town. In everyone's opinion, in Charny Orée de Puisaye, it is undoubtedly the Charny Hall. Built in 1835 during the time of Louis-Philippe, it is erected on stone pilasters from the Château de Montargis. Thus, it was built on the model of the market halls of yesteryear, as they have always been in the center of Charny. It was the town hall then a room for associations and an exhibition hall. Now dormant, La Halle watches over Charny and hosts the market on Tuesdays and Sundays.

La Fabuloserie, an extraordinary art museum

The Fabuloserie is a unique place where raw art and creativity intertwine in a whirlwind of originality. This atypical museum, founded by Alain Bourbonnais, brings together works by extraordinary artists, creating an eccentric and captivating artistic universe. Whether it's the museum, the inhabited garden or the workshop of Alain Bourbonnais, don't miss, in the garden, the unmissable Petit Pierre carousel, the centerpiece of the collection, which will come to life during your visit.

Montigny Castle in Perreux

The Château de Montigny is a true historical gem. This human-scale castle from the 17th century, surrounded by park of more than 60 hectares, immerses you in a curious story: it is a castle of companies. Indeed, during the Revolution, the owner, a pro-revolutionary, chose to make his estate a business location and founded a brickyard and an earthenware factory. Remains are still presented at the castle.

Tuesday and Sunday morning markets

If the Tuesday morning markets allow you to quickly do your basic shopping, that of Sunday is the unmissable meeting place for local producers and other itinerant traders.

It's quite a circuit to do during your Sunday stroll: the honey of Saint-Martin-sur-Ouanne, the poultry of Perreux, the flower plants and the vegetable garden of Prunoy, the market gardener of Perreux... without forgetting more products exotic like catered dishes with Asian flavors. The cheese maker's stall, the Marennes oysters stall (arrived the day before) or even the black pudding stall made on site, always have nice queues.

At the Sunday morning market, I can never resist Fabien Marroy's good farmhouse bread and Bruno Bogaert's melt-in-the-mouth madeleines with honey.
